 AKC® OBEDIENCE REGULATIONS CHAPTER 2 Regulations for Performance and Judging  Section 18. Heel Position.   The heel position as defined in these regulations applies whether the dog is sitting, standing, lying down or moving at heel.  The dog should be at the handler’s left side straight in line with the direction the handler is facing.  The area from the dog’s head to shoulder is to be in line with the handler’s left hip.  The dog should be close to but not crowding its handler so that the handler has freedom of motion at all times.   Section 19. Also --- Crib Notes from yours truly. Enjoy ! Section 16. Use of Leash.   All dogs must be kept on a leash except when in the obedience ring, warm-up ring or exercise area and must be brought into and taken out of the ring on leash.  Leashes must be clipped to the collar when dogs are brought in for classes requiring an on-leash exercise, a group exercise and awards.  This pertains to the Novice and Beginner Novice Classes for the individual Class Runs. ALL CLASSES - when they pin awards - you need to bring the dog in with the leash clipped onto the collar  In a class where a leash is not required for the performance of the individual exercises, the dog may be brought into and taken out of the ring on a leash that slips/attaches through the dog’...

 

 

 Want to increase a dog's drive during an impulse control exercise?? Mark and Pay with a Send Back. This video demonstrates it with Drop On Recall, but it can also be used with almost any exercise as a reward.

 One of the great exercises in the Beginner Novice Class is the Stay and Walk Around the Room! Put your dog on a sit stay and start by calmly returning, Marking and Paying. Walk around your dog in a big circle, get back into heel position and Mark/Pay! Put a treat behind the dog's tail. Tell him to stay step out -- Mark the Stay and Pay by releasing to the treat. Go to a store with your dog. Just do one Sit/Stay -- not asking too much -- step in front, return and Mark and Pay! Don't overdo it -- just let him know things are good when you work as a team.

1 Cup Protein (like canned tuna or chicken) 1 Cup Tapioca Flour 1 Egg Blend well. Should be rubbery. Spread across pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Cut in very small pieces.

 

 This one happened to be during the AKC Obedience Classic in Orlando in 2016.  It was the first of three runs, against some of the best dogs in the country. Don't want to brag --- so I'll let this clip speak for our results:

 Warts And All. This was Brielle's first time in the ring. . . Beginner Novice. Sometimes you won't know how to work with your dog until you get there. And watching this video back - I learned so much!! Connie Cleveland always says that one of two things happens when you show your dog -- you have a good run, or you learn a lot. In this case, it was both!
